ACHIEVING ENVIRONMENTAL OBJECTIVES
The potential to expand renewable generation on existing infrastructure to build clean power in Alberta
Brazeau advances an opportunity to more quickly replace coal and ramp up renewables.
Detailed environmental analysis is underway. As part of planning for the project we will have a comprehensive report on any impacts of the proposed project when it is designed. We will share that here and in project updates, so sign up on the home page to stay in the loop!
Expanding Brazeau hydro by between 600 to 900 MW could result in some significant impacts in reducing our carbon footprint in Alberta. This includes:
- Removing over 200 million tonnes of greenhouse gases over the project life.
- Enough clean power to remove the equivalent of over 465,000 cars removed from the road.
The generation of between 600 to 900 MW of renewable power in any given hour is enough to power the equivalent of one major city like Calgary or Edmonton.
